She is looking different in her new biker chick avatar in Blue. Though Katrina Kaif’s presence in the film is only for a few minutes, the lady has gone for a complete makeover for the role of ‘Nikki’, an enigmatic girl with ulterior motives.

Katz will be seen with studs and tattoos. She is wearing a stud on her pierced lower-lip, big tattoos on her arms and chest, rings on her fingers, and a very sanyasi kinda matted hair. According to a source, the actress is excited about the way she looks in the movie.

But the dread-locks hairdo gave Katz the nightmares because it caused a lot of damage to her naturally smooth, straight hair.

“She’d immediately go for a hair wash once the shoot would be over,” a source is quoted as saying.

Gotta take care of those tresses!

Just how Katrina Kaif is different from Indu of “Raajneeti” ‎2010 imk

Katrina Kaif

Humility is her second name, courtesy her best companion. She comes across as honest, frank, genuine and largely undiplomatic. She doesn't parry a question either. If she isn't able to meet the time for her interview, she would start her message with humbling words like …“my sincere apologies…”, a trait quite uncommon in Bollywood.

Meet Katrina Kaif. These days, more than Prakash Jha, the producer-director of her film Raajneeti, Rajneetireleasing this Friday, she is making news for playing a “non-glamorous” role in it. She feels rather amazed at the epithet, “It's a misconception. I think the glamour comes from a woman's strength of character, the fire in her and ability do something rare and not by wearing a mini skirt. I think the role of a domesticated woman is rather more unglamorous than the one I am playing in Raajneeti.”

As Indu in Raajneeti, Katrina adds, she plays the daughter of a political financer, is spoilt, wears trendy clothes and lives life on her conditions. “Indu is very outgoing, fiery, brash and wants everything in life. She is quite shameless in love, meaning, without any caution she goes to the person she loves and pushes him to love her back. When it doesn't get reciprocated she feels jolted and realises she can't get everything she wants, that way my character is pretty glamorous. The so-called unglamorous part comes only in the later half of the film when I am pushed to live a politician's life out of business compulsions.”

Next, speaking “straight Hindi” has been one of the hardest practices she did for the film. She admits, “I really tried to push my boundaries to do better; I hope I am accepted by the viewers.”

To maintain a recall value, Jha has been talking about Raajneeti in almost all his interviews and he minced no words earlier saying the film is on the first family of politicians in India, a statement he now refrains from, so do his actors.

Quips Katrina, “I think the blame should go to me as I come from a foreign land, speak accented Hindi which has made the media think that I am portraying Sonia Gandhi. It's not her biography. In fact, as a politician I come pretty late in the picture,” she asserts.

And to portray one, Katrina spent a lot of time with Jha who is familiar with the politics of Bihar. She also saw videos of several women politicians. She of course has reached an opinion too. “I think it is easy to criticise politicians. Some of the criticism may be right but by playing Indu, I realised how tough and courageous a job politics is. They take the responsibilities of the fault done by others and have to take many unwarranted things in their stride. Though the job comes with a lot of benefits, it requires a lot of personal sacrifices too. We never keep ourselves in their shoes before criticising.”

Katrina's frankness seems to have come from life she lived with her mother who, as a single parent, nurtured her along with her six sisters and taught her the virtues of living a privileged life. She agrees, “I regularly pray to God and thank Him for giving me so much in such a short span of time. I feel so privileged that if I worked hard, I got returns too. So many people work hard, get frustrated for not achieving what they worked for.”

She adds that accepting success easily also came from her frequent travels. “Within quick short spaces I frequently changed countries, societies, cultures and language that it became easy to accept everything that came to me. I take people on their face value and never judge them. I open up to those who talk to me with a clean agenda.”

Films are not the only thing on her mind. An orphanage in Mumbai, which would be an extension of her mother's orphanage she runs in Hong Kong where Katrina was born, is next she wants to have “instinctively.”

“It needs lots of permissions to have one in Mumbai. We have just got one in Madurai and admitted a baby girl there. I would like to have a house of my own in Karjat and Madurai so that I could take care of the orphanages too.” So, what makes Katrina so humble and gracious? She laughs, “Life taught me to forgive those who haven't been nice to me. I may been bad with some people before whom I can't go with clean conscience. I seek such people's forgiveness from God,” she says.

As Raajneeti, like any other film is “an exam for her”, she asserts that she didn't do it to change her image or audiences. “I did it because it was engaging, exciting and I liked shades in my character. I am not saying to people ‘watch me, I am different in it'.”

Rather than a mishap, wardrobe malfunction has become just another occurrence in Bollywood, which could be easily tackled. Katrina Kaif too fell prey to this casual approach when her saree badly clinged to her wet body till her knees exposing her legs during the shooting of De Dhana Dhan.

A source informed that Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif were shooting an intimate rain song which required Kat to wear a saree till her knee. But the wet saree shrunk to such an extent that a better part of Kat’s legs got exposed. Disappointed at such a malfunction, Priyadarshan directed the cameraman Pony Verma to shoot only close-ups to hide the problem.

But what shocks here is that none of the crewmembers were fazed by this incident not even Katrina Kaif herself. When asked what she has to say about the mishap, she casually dismissed the whole thing as just another folly that occurs on the sets of every film.

Katrina Kaif hops into local taxi

It’s a rare sight to see a top Bollywood actress hailing a taxi by the side of a road. Katrina Kaif did just that on Monday morning.

She was supposed to fly to Bangalore for a promotional event of her upcoming movie Raajneeti. The flight was on time, and her driver did not show up. Turned out he was stuck in a traffic jam.

Not willing to miss the flight, Katrina took matters into her own hands. She took her luggage along and hailed a cab to the airport. Even as the taxi whizzed past the routine morning traffic, the cabbie stole a glance in the rear view mirror only to find Katrina Kaif as his passenger.

Katrina arrived at the airport in time to join Ranbir Kapoor and director Prakash Jha, but the duo were not very pleased with Katrina’s blasé attitude towards her security.

She is currently one of the highest paid actresses in India and has been voted the sexiest woman in a poll conducted by an Indian magazine. She made her debut with the movie Boom that was a box office disaster. But, she stayed on to achieve real success with the movie Namastey London. She has made a very successful career for herself in Bollywood now and has given many hits in a row since 2006. Personally, her relationship with Salman Khan has been a very controversial one. Katrina is a Cancer and her ruling number is 7. Her lucky days are Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The planet Neptune makes her highly imaginative. She is an easygoing and optimistic person. She is generous, emotional and sensitive at heart. She loves taking care of her family, and, being a Cancer woman she will be a perfect wife and a great mother. The year 2009 will turn out to be better than expected for her. She achieves success fairly easily and reaches new heights. Her fans love her and will continue doing so even in year 2009. However, she must make sure that she does not go on a signing spree this year. She must be careful regarding her health and not put too much pressure on herself. She will reap huge benefits from her professional life this year and will capitalize on all the opportunities that come her way. At the end of the year, she might take some rash decisions, which may not prove to be fruitful for her. She may also be confused with regard to her personal life this year.

Katrina Kaif in Raajneeti faces lawsuit 2010 (imk)

Ever since photographs of a sari-clad Katrina Kaif in Raajneeti appeared in the mediahttp://www.hindustantimes.com/Images/HTEditImages/Images/Raajneeti-story.jpg, there seems to be no end to reports that her character is based on Sonia Gandhi. Never mind if director Prakash Jha and the actress have continuously denied any inspiration from the Congress leader.

The latest is that the filmmaker has been slapped with a lawsuit from a social worker claiming that the political drama defames Mrs Gandhi. Naseem Khan, a social worker, has moved the Mumbai Civil Court, seeking a ban on the film. His petition alleges that Kaif’s role is based on Sonia Gandhi’s life and Jha should not malign her (Mrs Gandhi) by showing her (Kaif) in intimate scenes. The scenes that Khan is objecting to are filmed with Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor.

Fictional story
On his part, Jha denies that Kaif’s character and her story are based on Sonia Gandhi. “From the onset, I’ve been saying that it’s a fictional story and bears no resemblance to any person living or dead,” he says, adding, “Raajneeti is the story of a family and about the politics of gaining power.”

However, he does agree that Mrs Gandhi has led a very inspiring life. “Soniaji’s life is an inspiration for many, but not for the character I’ve written for Katrina. I hope these rumours are laid to rest now,” he sighs. Reportedly, the court has adjourned the hearing till June 10, while the film is scheduled to release in cinemas on June 4. It is believed that the court will decide on the case after considering the censor report.

Sources associated with Raajneeti tell us that the movie will be censored in another few days, and are certain that the release won’t be deffered. Declining to comment, since the matter is subjudice, all Jha is willing to say is: “Our lawyers are handling the case appropriately. Let the law take its own natural course.”

But when asked if anyone from the Congress has asked him to show Raajneeti to Sonia Gandhi, Jha replies, “No one has asked me yet. But if Soniaji wants to see the film, I have no problem with that.”

Katrina launches Rhymeskool with A.R. Rahman 2010(imk)

One is a musician par excellence who has won every possible award, the other is a gorgeous beauty who has managed to make a mark for herself as one of the top actresses in Bollywood and together they came to launch a music album of nursery rhymes for kids. Yes we are indeed talking about the one and only A.R.Rahman and Katrina Kaif who jointly launched Rhymeskool yesterday in Mumbai.

Katrina Kaif launching Rhymeskool

Released under Sa Re Ga Ma, Rhymeskool has nursery rhymes for small children which have been composed by Rahman and rendered by Katrina Kaif. Speaking on this occasion, Rahman said, "I want to thank Sa Re Ga Ma for trusting K.M.Music Conservatory with this project. I want to thank Selva who has been mentoring the kids, Johnny my band-mate and also all the staff, teachers from my school who have been working on this project. I would also like to thank Katrina for her kind gesture and for being part of this project."

Katrina also seemed more than happy to be associated with this project. She said, "Education for children is something that is very important for this country. It's a topic that is very close to my mother's and my heart. I would like to thank Sa Re Ga Ma for coming up with such a noble initiative. For me, it was a great honour to be associated with something Rahman saab was doing. I feel really happy being here and hope that we can achieve what we set out to. If the kids like it, we can may be come out with more such interesting concepts in the future."

Katrina also said that she would be distributing the CD's at the Mercy Home orphanage in Madurai that she and her mother are closely associated with.

Katrina Kaif plays cricket with guys

Whatever the outcome of the current IPL imbroglio, the game has found one ardent fan in Katrina Kaif who now intends to pursue the game not as a spectator but a player on the field.

Buzz up!
Rani Mukherjee played a cricketer in Dil Bole Hadippa. But it's Katrina Kaif who has learnt the ropes of the game, and not for a role. Being a brand ambassador for an IPL team is just not enough for Katrina. She believes she needs to understand the game that she's endorsing and supporting. So Katrina has been taking frantic cricket lessons. Now she's well on the way to getting a hang of the game. Quite efficiently.

Katrina not only learnt the rudiments of the game from Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal, she also played cricket with them wearing sarees, if you please!

Says the actress, "What's so tough about playing cricket in a saree? Why do people presume I'm not at home in sarees? I've been wearing them at fashion shows and other events from the time I was a model. And I am comfortable in a saree, even when playing cricket."

It all started in Bhopal where when they were shooting for Raajneeti. The guys in the unit decided to play cricket between shots. Katrina insisted on joining them. Ranbir apparently shooed Katrina away arguing "Chal-chal yeh ladkiyon ke bas ki baat nahin."

It was the matured and kinder Arjun Rampal who insisted that Katrina play with them.

Says Katrina, "Ya, Arjun was very supportive. He not only stood up for me he also taught me elements of the game. Ranbir didn't want me to be part of their cricket team. So I got my own bat and ball and insisted that I be part of the team."

Since a lot of the game was recorded on camera for the film's promotional purposes, the guys often pretended to welcome Katrina in the team.

"But the minute the camera was switched off they sent me off to… like a hundred miles away to do fielding. I had to put my down if I wanted to learn the game on the field," she grumbles.

Katrina has returned from Bhopal much more clued into the game.

"Now whenever I'm at the IPL games next, I know what's going on. I don't have to clap and cheer something I don't understand," Katrina rejoices at her newly-discovered love for the game.

Katrina Kaif wanted to be a firefighter

Today, Katrina Kaif is at a place many young girls dream of. She’s at the coveted top spot, has riches, fame and legions of fans. But there was a time when she too dreamed of doing something ‘unusual’ in life.

“I always used to make a world in my head and live in that. I always wanted to be something unusual. Some of the dreams I remember, they may sound stupid - I wanted to be a firefighter, I wanted to be a stunt woman, I wanted to go to NASA. Acting was something to fancy,” Katrina is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Yet, in an industry given strongly to nepotism, it’s to her credit that she came without any connections and, with only Salman Khan as her guide, cemented a place for herself in the industry. She ascribes her success to destiny.

“It's (success) destiny, no one can plan it. There are many people who are connected with the industry because of their father, mother or other family members; still they are not able to achieve what is termed as success in the industry.

“The miracle that happened with my life has been the success of my films. Because, had those films not been successful, no one would have done anything for me,” Katrina is quoted as saying by a news agency.

She is presently moving away from eye-candy roles and will next be seen in a non-glam role in director Prakash Jha’s Raajneeti.
